Moni Mehala book is more of a PICTURE BOOK with the illustration leading and depicting the main story. I choose specifically more common words and phrases written throughout the book as an aid to the storyline. Here is a synopsis of the story so you can help your little ones in your guided reading/storytime.

Synopsis:

Lok Da Moni Eysei, wise hermit, lived in the forest with his two students: Moni Mehala, ocean goddess, and Ream Eyso, demon of fire. One day, Lok Da challenged his students to see who would be the first to collect a jar of morning dew. Moni Mekhala laid her scarf on a tree branch overnight to collect the dew overnight. While Ream Eyso ran from leaf to leaf trying to collect as much as he could. Moni Mekhala was the first to bring back a full jar of morning dew and was awarded a magic crystal ball. As a consolation prize, Lok Da gave Ream Eyso a crystal axe. Ream Eyso was jealous and wanted to take the crystal ball from Moni Mekhala. They fought in the sky as it rain. When Ream Eyso swung his axe, Moni Mekhala used her crystal ball as a shield. When the two elements struck, lightning and thunder was created. Ream Eyso was blinded by the light and fell to the Earth. Moni Mekhala, with words of wisdom from Lok Da, forgave Ream Eyso. However when Ream Eyso woke, he was still jealous. He continued to chase her thoughout the world's sky. There endless battle is what causes lightning and thunder when it rains.
